Hot off the Press!

Barn living gets an update along the California coast with the completion of the Sunset Idea house on stands now!
High on a hill amid a woodland of coast live oaks, down a stretch of California's scenic highway 68 towards Salinas Valley, the Monterey Idea House draws from the richness of it's roots. Rustic barn buildings dot the backroads of this storybook farmland community, serving as inspiration for this lavishly textured, architecturally expansive home.
Master Suite
A serene oasis at day's end, the bedroom opens onto a wraparound deck and panoramas of Monterey Bay. A few bold hits make a strong style statement. Here, our cowhide chair and abstract painting pick up on the earthly pallette.

Dressing Lounge
A curved wall, covered with gilded, hand-painted parchment paper, forms a glamorous backdrop to this chaise and side table. The silver satan rug tickles toes with luxury.
Master Bath
Nature is the inspiration for the blend of textures. Taking cues from the nearby hills and ocean, this luxe bathing sanctuary is both rugged and refined.

Cascading tile forms a "waterfall" from the ceiling down the tub, ending in a puddle of modrocks recycled glass pebbles.

Guest Room

Surrounded by a leafy canopy of green, this home base for a college age kid is a throwback to treehouse living, showcasing an array of natural textures and materials.
An older child's room often serves as extra guest quarters. Our leaf patterened quilt is casual but polished.

Outdoor Living
The open-air dining room features reclaimed redwood siding salvaged from an abondoned water tower that once served a local stage coach station.

Kitchen
The elegant vertical lines of the cabinetry visually hightened this chef-worthy space, which includes black granite counters, and island with a smooth countertop, and stainless steel appliances.

Living Area

Warm putty-colored walls form a neutral backdrop to the massive stone fireplace, anchored with a chunky concrete mantel. The eclectic mix of furnishings creates a gathering spot.

In the Landscape

The Idea House comprises three buildings: the guest suite barn, the main living quarters, and a luxurious bunkhouse for the bedrooms.

Outdoor Living

Protected from the elements, the spacious porch provides enough room for entertaining, relaxing, and even sleeping outdoors.

Mottled browns and grays get a jolt from red French doors. The rich hue is a nod to the traditional barn color.
